Getting to Gabriola Island
The short version is: we will meet at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and travel to Gabriola Island together.
When making travel plans, arrive at YVR before 1PM on Wednesday, May 23, in order to join the caravan that arrives on Gabriola in time for dinner. If this doesn’t fit your travel plans, contact us and we can make other arrangements.
Taking the Ferry
Getting to Gabriola Island is an adventure in itself! We will drive through Downtown Vancouver and West Vancouver to the BC Ferries terminal in Horseshoe Bay. From there, it is a 1 hour and 40-minute ferry trip across the Strait of Georgia to the coastal town of Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island. The Queen of Saanich is the senior member of the fleet on this route. This ferry is 122m long and carries 400 vehicles and nearly 1400 passengers.
From Nanaimo, a short 20-minute ferry takes us to Gabriola Island. This route is serviced by the Quinsam, a modest 86m in length and carrying 400 passengers and 70 vehicles.
Ferry information is available at : www.bcferries.com
Looking for an Adventure?
Floatplane service is available from Vancouver and Victoria to Silva Bay, on the south end of Gabriola Island. From Vancouver, it is a 15 minute flight across the Georgia Straight.
